Our Holy Prophet ﷺ states:
“Every son of Adam commits sin, and the best of those who commit sin are those who repent.” Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says that everyone can make a mistake. What is meant by a mistake is the thing that is known or unknown, a sin committed knowingly or unknowingly. When it is a mistake concerning the hereafter, whether small or big, all mankind makes them but the best of them are those who repent from it. Do not say: “I do not make mistakes. I do not sin.” Most of the time, what you know as right is not right. We look and we see later that we have been making a mistake for years. What we thought was right was actually wrong. We need to repent from them. When it concerns matters of this world, it’s not that important. People actually make more mistakes regarding such things. Those who make mistakes regarding matters of the hereafter, there are things that can be done in response to make it up and Allah ﷻ will forgive them. When you make a mistake or sin, repent and ask for forgiveness and Allah ﷻ will forgive.

[As for] matters of this world, well it passes like this or like that. People wake up and go to sleep. Not everybody can be successful, it is granted by Allah ﷻ. So those who are patient will get their rewards and those who are not can fit themselves. However regarding the hereafter, we need to repent and ask for forgiveness. The door of repentance is open. Therefore, don’t say: “I do not make mistakes.” People of today do not accept their faults. They say: “Everything I do is right. Everything I do is good”, they keep talking like this. People of old times used to say: “If the mistake was a Kaftan made of gold, still nobody would wear it.” The Kaftan is the most luxurious robe worn by Sultans. Even if a mistake was like that, nobody would come close to it. But nobody admits their mistakes. Everybody says: “I’m right. I know best.” When this is the case, you’re not going to learn anything and it’s not going to be of benefit to you. The word of our Holy Prophet ﷺ is the truth; we all make mistakes. May Allah ﷻ forgive us all insha’Allah.
