Sohbet on the Hijri New Year, the Hijra, and some insight into the importance of Muharram to Muslims before the weekly dhikr/meditation of the Naqshbandi tariqat.

Muharram, the first month of the Hijri calendar, is among the holiest months for Muslims, it marks the beginning of the lunar year, reminds us of the Hijrah (migration) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions to Medina, and the martyrdom of his beloved grandson Imam Hussain, on whom be peace, and close companions who were cruelly killed while seeking freedom, justice, and standing firm in the face of oppression, may Allah bless and accept all their blessed souls and raise their stations in the Divine Presence.
