On the authority of Abū Shurayh al-‘Adawi, who said: I heard with my own two ears and saw with my own two eyes, the Prophet ﷺ saying, “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must honour his neighbour. Moreover, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must honour his guest with the required hospitality.” He was asked, “What is the required hospitality, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “The [minimum] required hospitality is a day and night; full hospitality is for three days; anything more than that is charity on behalf of the host. It is not permitted for the guest to stay for so long as to trouble his host. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must speak goodness or remain silent.”
