The Night of Isra and Mi’raj

Sohbet by Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adil [10/03/2021]

“Tonight is the Night of Isrā’ and Mi‘rāj, it will be a Mubarak (blessed) night َ’ ُس ْب َحا َنََالَّ ِذيَأَ ْس َرىََ َِب َع ْب ِد ِهََلَ ْي ًلََ ِم َنََا ْل َم ْسَ ِج ِدََا ْل َح َرا ِمََ ِإلَىَا ْل َم ْسَ ِج ِدََا ْلَْ ْق َصىَا َّل ِذيَ َبا َرَ ْكنَاَ َح ْولَهََُ ِلنُ ِر َيهََُ ِم ْنَ .insha’Allah Glorified (and Exalted) be He who took His Servant by night‘ ,’آ َيا ِتنَا،َ ِإنَّهََُ ُه َوََال َّس ِمي ُعََا َْل َب ِصي ُرَ from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.’ (Qur’ān 17:01). On this night, our Holy Prophet ﷺ [saw] all of Allah’s ﷻ creations, everything He owns, the hereafter, heaven and hell, the seven heavens, al-‘Arsh (the throne) and then [reached] the sight of Allah ﷻ where there’s no time and space; Allah ﷻ knows it the way He knows it. It was all favored for our Holy Prophet ﷺ. Where no other creature was able to reach, our Holy Prophet ﷺ was able to reach on this night. All of it was given to him as an honor. The highest of all humanity, our Holy Prophet ﷺ, he is the Sultan of all Prophets. All of it was given to our Holy Prophet ﷺ on this night as Ikram (gift) and it was all shown to him.

It is the night of miracles. It is the night of miracles this night of the 27th; from this evening till morning it is a holy night. Regardless of what the wahhabis, salafis and such say, this blessed night occurs in two places in the Quran. It says, ‘َُس ْب َحا َن ’, ‘Glorified (and Exalted)’, we speak only of Allah in this way and it shows His Majesty and His Power. It is a glorification which is not said about anyone else. When Allah wants, no such thing as time and place is left. It is a miracle for our Holy Prophet ﷺ. People ask: “Is there anybody who goes to heaven?” Yes, there is, our Holy Prophet ﷺ went. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ is ‘الصادقَالْمين’, The trust worthy and most truthful one, our Prophet ﷺ. He brought this message to us and it’s enough for us. A person of faith believes it and this is sufficient for him. Those who are Muslim cannot deny this. These beautiful things can only be denied by the nonbelievers who do not accept it.

On this night Allah ﷻ gave various gifts. He ordered the Fard (obligatory) prayers which were reduced from fifty times to five times. Our Holy Prophet ﷺ did not object but Hadrat Mūsá ‘alayhi s-salām felt sorry for us and said: “Even five times are too much for these people.” But our Holy Prophet ﷺ couldn’t ask to reduce it more and said: “No, I am embarrassed to ask for that.” So he accepted the five times prayer saying: “This would be enough for my Ummah (nation).” Otherwise, we would have had to pray fifty times and no one would’ve been able to do it. Amongst the nation of Hadrat Mūsá ‘alayhi s-salām, they couldn’t do it. And he knew that because we are weaker than them, we wouldn’t be able to handle it and so it was reduced to five times. Just as the person who reaches our Holy Prophet ﷺ or a Sultan is given gifts, our Holy Prophet ﷺ reached Allah’s sight and was given gifts. And those who love our Holy Prophet ﷺ, they are also given of those gifts on this night. As for the events that took place on this night, perhaps it would take thousands of years for them to happen but it happened in one night, not even one [whole] night but it happened in only two hours of this world’s time.

Allah ﷻ opened up time and place for him and our Holy Prophet ﷺ saw it all and came back with the Ikrams (gifts). It is because of his glorification for his Ummah that this happened, thank Allah ﷻ. May Allah ﷻ make it Mubarak (blessed). Insha’Allah there are duties to be done on this night. It is a holy night so you can do whatever you can. However, you can do Khatm ul-Khwajagan and Dhikr, Tasabih Prayer, then Mi‘rāj Prayer which is 2 Rakaats and in each Rakaat you recite Surat ul-Ikhlas 20 times. Then there’s a short Dua that needs to be read afterwards. Following that, you can pray Qada’ (missed) prayers, read Quran, Surat Yasin, you can continue as much as you like and they would be counted as having enlivened the night and spent that night in prayer. To wake up for Suhoor and then fast the next day is also of the Sunnahs since the next day is also a great Mubarak (blessed) day and it has many virtues. On the next day, let everyone recite 1000 times Surat ul-Ikhlas, its rewards are great. Any good deeds and Sadaqah (elms giving) that is done, may Allah ﷻ accept them all and may it be a means for our protection. May Allah ﷻ make us reach better days for Islam and Muslims. May we reach many more Mi‘rāj nights. May Allah ﷻ send the Sahib (owner). May He protect Islam and Muslims. May Allah ﷻ protect us from the evils of traitors, the evils of nonbelievers, the evils shaytan and the evils of our Nafs (ego) insha’Allah.
