“A’ūdhu bi-Llāhi mina sh-shayṭāni r-rajīm. Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm: وإذَاأَْنَعْمنَا َعلَىاْلنَسانأَْعَر َضونَأَىِبَجاِنِبِهۖوإذَامَّسهالَّشر َكاَنَيئوًسا (Qur’ān 17:83). Allah ﷻ states in the Holy Quran: ‘And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; and when evil touches him, he is ever despairing.’ Allah ﷻ says, ‘When We do good for a person and give him of Our bounties and blessings, he doesn’t care at all. He’s not grateful as if all of these things were supposed to be done for him anyway. He’s not thankful however when something happens to him he is hopeless.’ That time in response and because there’s no faith from the beginning, there’s hopelessness too. Hopelessness is a bad thing. Now [with] the state of the world, since most people do not have Iman (faith), there’s hopelessness. Hopelessness is the worst thing.
A Mu’min (believer) believes in Allah ﷻ, believes in the help of Allah ﷻ and believes in the existence of Allah ﷻ. Those who do not believe in Him and do not have faith in Him are also living in hell in this world, not just in the hereafter but also in this world. They live in fire but it’s not as the fire that we know of. The fire inside is worse. It is hopelessness and evil that burns people. It’s a huge calamity, this hopelessness. Therefore, we should always be grateful. We should be thankful for these blessings and bounties so they may both increase and continue. The greatest Ni’mah (blessing) is the Ni’mah of Iman. Thank Allah ﷻ for it because all goodness is in faith. If it weren’t for it, nothing will be of value or benefit. A person who doesn’t have faith doesn’t even benefit himself, how’s he going to benefit others? It can’t be. May Allah ﷻ protect us and increase our faith insha’Allah.”
